The assignment was cartography. We were challenged to come up with a concept and design of a map. I thought it would be a little more interesting if the map was audible rather than visual. I chose Dante’s Inferno as my subject matter and created CD packaging to encase the nine discs that represented the sounds you’d hear on the nine levels of hell if you dared listen to them. “Sound beyond sound” is a line from the english translation of Dante’s Inferno. I translated it back into Italian and came up with my title “suono oltre il suono.”
